David Hall said he is committed to rebuilding VEIRS, and thinks it will be stronger and more adaptable for researchers and the public. They are not sure when the project will be completed.
The VIERS facility was located on a remote southern shore in the National Park, close to hiking trails and a dock.
Up to 48 people can occupy the twelve cabins. Students will have access to a waterside dock for research.
College students and researchers from institutions like the National Geographic have been visiting for years. Meals are usually cooked by volunteers in exchange for temporary lodging.
Red hook parking terminal
St Thomas—The new two-story parking garage is set to open the weekend of July 4. The facility will be able to hold up to 158 vehicles. And will include handicap accessibility features.
Parking rates will be $2 for and up to $10 dollars for more than 4 hours. Overnight is $10 per day.
The project was started in 2016 but was delayed due to the hurricanes.
The lot will be closed June 14 – 16 and June 28 – July 4 to provide parking accommodations for off island events.
