  The office of Small Business Administration in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands district office will conduct a free workshop in the next few months to help small disadvantaged businesses obtain federal contracts.

  The SBA’s 7(j) management and Technical Assistance Program will help on topics such as construction management, how to prepare a federal proposal, and FAR (Federal Acquisition and Regulation) basics. They will provide training, executive education, and one-on-one consulting in a wide range of business activities.

RAFT UP CONCERT 

Raft up concert The charity concert held May 7 in support of the Health and Wellness Center brought in over $20,000. The concert was held on the Second Chance catamaran and the event was orchestrated by BEACH Getaway Charters.

  Both Erin Hart and the Wheeland Brothers band performed on Second Chance while raffle tickets were drawn. “I’m so thankful that the community is taking a stand for their own health care” “The support is amazing and it shows how much affordable health care was lacking here” said Island Health and Wellness founder Sandy Colasacco.

  Hart says she plans to make the an fundraiser annual event. “I believe that Island Health and wellness is a vital resource to our community” “In years past, I’ve had multiple occasions when a visit to the doctor plus lab work cost between $600 and $1,000. For a lot of the community, that can be hard to swing financially, so people were avoiding or delaying their health care.

  Island Health makes quality health care affordable and accessible, and I want to do all that I can to support them and to spread the word that this resource is available to anyone here that needs it.” Milam, A. (2019, May 16).

Janet Burton book signing

  Saturday at Bajo el Sol Janet Burton her book signing  “Before Our Time: An Oral History of St. John” on May 16 in Mongoose Junction. The book is meant to appeal to younger adults and middle school readers. Dog Show Wagapalooza was held on Saturday from 5 to 8 pm. The annual fundraiser took place in the Lumber yard parking lot. There werre lots of activities including food, drink, and a raffle. ” The Virgin Islands Daily News, 16 May 2019.
